IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: CHANGE TO YOUR GP SERVICES
I have decided to merge my practice with The Eastwood Group practice at the Belfairs branch site 335 Eastwood Road North, SS9 4LT with effect from 25th March 2020.
The current premises at 9 Blenheim Chase, Leigh on Sea SS9 3BZ will be closing its doors on the 25th March 2020. My practice team and I will be transferring to the nearby Belfairs site following the merger.
I believe the merger of the two practices will be in the best interests of patients because together, they will be in a much stronger position to meet the growing health and care needs of our shared population.
It also means that GPs, nurses, practice staff and other healthcare professionals will be able to pool their expertise, skills and knowledge, to enable the delivery of all of the services currently available and more at a higher level of quality for all patients.
With the Eastwood Group Practice working out of surgeries at the Belfairs branch site, Kent Elms and Rayleigh Road, patients will also be able to access whichever site is most appropriate for their needs providing a wider range of choice and access to services.
You will be automatically transferred to the merged practice as a registered patient. If that is your choice there is no need for you to take any further action. If you would, however, prefer not to be registered with The Eastwood Group Practice you are able to apply to other alternative GP surgeries in your area for registration.
You can either visit the NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-gp) and enter your postcode to see what other practices you could register with or contact Healthwatch Southend on 01702 416320 or Information Services on 0300 500 1895.
To make an appointment from 8 am on the 26th March 2020 please contact The Eastwood Group Practice on:

FREQUENTY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY MERGE THE PRACTICES? The NHS is changing rapidly and NHS England is mandating practices to work much more collaboratively across larger patient populations.
We want to ensure that the patients of both practices continue to receive high quality medical care. We are now looking after patients with complex medical problems; patients with more than one long term illness as well as increasing patient expectation. We want to continue to be able to offer a personal approach to those with long term health problems, as well as be able to respond to those with more urgent health needs. We feel the best way to ensure this happens is to bring together both practices so that we can share our pool of knowledge and skills.
The workload of a GP Practice has increased enormously in recent years and we want to make sure that time is used most effectively. At present, both practices are duplicating many routine tasks and by coming together we hope to make time efficiencies which will free up staff to focus on improvements in our current services as well as responding to new initiatives.
WILL I BE ABLE TO SEE MY USUAL DOCTOR OR NURSE? You will always be able to choose which Clinician you want to see, however, that may not always provide you with the quickest or most appropriate response to your needs. With a wider range of highly qualified healthcare professionals now working in general practice we hope to help you to make the right choice for the right care at the right time.
I HAVE A LONG TERM HEALTH PROBLEM – HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY CARE? Every effort will be made to ensure that you continue to receive the same high level of ongoing care. If you usually attend a specific clinic such as diabetes clinic etc., this will continue.
WILL OPENING HOURS CHANGE? Core opening hours will remain the same with telephone lines open for all patients from 8.00am until 6.30 pm Monday to Friday, however, The Eastwood Group Practice do offer extended opening hours on a Monday and Wednesday night from the Belfairs site, and on a Thursday from the Rayleigh Road site. BOOKING APPOINTMENTS – WILL I SEE ANY CHANGES? The Practices have different appointment models so this is an area we will be working on to ensure that the appointment system for the merged practice is as user friendly and accessible as possible, offering the correct balance of routine and urgent appointments to meet the patient demand.
MY MEDICAL RECORDS – HOW WILL THESE BE AFFECTED? Both practices use the same clinical system so your electronic records will be easily merged. Your current records will be available at the new merged practice from the morning of the 26th March ensuring continuity of care. All paper records are stored securely and these will be merged, for ease of access, over the coming months.
PRESCRIPTIONS – HOW WILL THESE BE AFFECTED? Your current arrangements should transfer over with the electronic records merger so there should be no change in the current way you order or receive your prescriptions. you order your prescriptions online, then we may need to update your access details, though we do hope to avoid this. Further information will be provided in due course if need be. Any issues please contact the Practice Manager
Our patient’s views are important to us so should you have any further questions or want to share your thoughts and comments about the merger, please attend one of our “Open Door” sessions.
